This news has been announced on thursday to the personnel of both Brussels Airlines and Sabena Technics and has been confirmed by the representative of Brussels Airlines.
"We are indeed taking over the concession of Hangar 41, inclusive about 70 employees of Sabena Technics" Says Geert Sciot, representative of Brussels Airlines. "Our own hangar in Melsbroek will be closed."
Till the end of this year Brussels Airlines still has a contract with Sabena Technics for the light maintenance of their Boeing 737's and also for the daily maintenance of their A330 fleet. Brussels Airlines will be able to do those 3 activities as from 2011.
This again means that from next year on Brussels Airlines will take care of the light- and daily maintenance of their entire, Avro-, Boeing and Airbus-fleet (A319 and A330). The line maintenance for the A330's is still taken care of by Sabena Technics till next year when the contract ends. For the major maintenance works Brussels Airlines always asks a worldwide price offer, except for the Avro-fleet, which is also being taken care of by their own Maintenance Department.
Before moving to Hangar 41, Brussels Airlines will do some construction works in the building to get the components shop and warehouse in there as well.
